beneath和under的区别

under指某物在另一物的下面或底下，两者之间有无一定距离均可。beneath指所处位置时，与under基本同义，但有时强调在某物的正下方，而且较富有文学性。

beneath和under的区别

一、beneath 和 under 都用来指示一个比较低的位置，经常可以互换，例如：

The cabinet was beneath / under the staircase.

橱柜在楼梯下面。

The boat sank beneath / under the waves.

小船被大浪吞没了。

它们还可以用来表示被某物掩埋或隐藏的状态，常跟 buried，hidden 或 discovered 连用，例如：

They found the body buried beneath / under a pile of leaves.

他们发现尸体被埋在一堆树叶下面。

My sister was hidden beneath / under several layers of blankets.

我妹妹藏在几层毯子下面。

二、两者的不同之处

1、beneath 比 under 更正式，但 under 更常用。

2、beneath 一个专门用来表示位置的术语，而 under 还可以用来指示除位置以外的很多其他东西，如 under age, going under, underpaid 等，例如：

Because she was under age, her parents were still responsible for her.

因为她还未成年，她的父母仍然应为她负责。

Nobody's offered me a lift so I'm going under my own steam.

没有人让我搭便车，我只好靠自己走了。

Nurses complain of being overworked and underpaid.

护士抱怨工作劳累过度而报酬过低。

3、beneath 和 under 也可以用来指示低于某个预料的情况，但是如果互换，就显得有点奇怪，因为 beneath 后面不能跟数字，例如：

It was beneath me to marry him.

嫁给他是我的耻辱。

解析：此句若改成 It was under me to marry him，在表面意思上显得很奇怪。

She was under 21 and, therefore, could not enter the pub.

她不到21岁，因此不能进酒吧。

解析：此句不能改成 She was beneath 21 and, therefore, could not enter the pub.

under和below区别

under和below的'区别：

1、两者都可表示“低于”，under主要表示垂直在下的正下方，而below则不一定表示正下方（即可以是正下方或非正下方）。

换句话说，表示正下方，两者都可用；不表示正下方，则通常用below。

2、两者均可表示数量方面的“少于”，但在现代英语中，以用under为多见。

注：在现代英语中，below表示“少于”，主要用于表示温度、高度以及有纵向标准可比的情况。

3、若表示一物被另一物所覆盖，则通常用under。

4、表示职位、级别等关系时，用under表直接关系，用below表非直接关系。

beneath的用法

1、作状语

They thought she had married beneath her.

他们认为她下嫁了。

The boat sank beneath the waves.

小船被大浪吞没了。

They found the body buried beneath a pile of leaves.

他们发现尸体被埋在了树叶下面。

Beneath her charming exterior lies a very determined woman.

在她迷人的外貌下面是一个意志坚定的女人。

2、作表语

Don't let what said worry you; that man's opinion of your performance is beneath your notice.

不要把杰克的话放在心上，那家伙对你的表演的意见不屑一顾。

3、作定语

She could see the muscles of his shoulders beneath his T-shirt.

她可以看到他T恤衫下的肩部肌肉。

4、作补语

He considers such jobs beneath him.

他觉得这种工作有失他的身份。
